Rally protests transit cuts in Mon Valley

A rally to protest proposed cuts by the Allegheny County Port Authority brought 200 people out today in McKeesport and and Port Vue, whose bus service would be eliminated.

Port Vue Mayor Brien A. Hranics organized a march from the Port Vue borough building to the McKeesport Transportation Center--a steep, 1.1 mile trek--to demonstrate the hardship the loss of service will have on his borough.

Several Mon Valley mayors and state representatives turned out to join protesters, among them Port Authority bus drivers, mechanics and other maintenance workers who face lay-offs. They were calling for more discussion about the cuts, which they said are another blow to the Mon Valley.
