Pittsburgh region under winter weather advisory as temperatures expected to drop

The Pittsburgh region received about an inch and a half of snow that impacted traffic throughout the day.

Rain is expected to mix in some areas south of Pittsburgh, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. for the Pittsburgh area.

Lake effect snowfall could bring up to 8 inches of snow in isolated areas in northern Mercer and Venango counties, according to KDKA TV.

Temperatures will drop dramatically tonight, and highs will be in the single digits by Thursday.

The mayor’s office issued a release today and said approximately 54 vehicles have been dispatched to treat streets until 10 p.m. today. About 45 vehicles will work the overnight shift, according to the mayor’s office.

The city’s snow plow tracker was also activated today.

According to the mayor’s release, afternoon crews were deployed “to pre-treat roads in all six street maintenance divisions.” Crews will be working through Wednesday morning.
