Former mineworkers official charged with stealing more than $10K from union

A former miners union official in Fayette County has been indicted on charges of stealing more than $10,000 from the union in 2013.

Daniel Ternitsky, 42, of Keisterville was named in a one-count indictment handed up Tuesday in federal court.

Mr. Ternitsky, former financial secretary for Local 285 of the United Mine Workers, is charged with cashing checks drawn from union accounts.

U.S. Department of Labor investigators said he embezzled $10,680.
