The Westinghouse Science Honors Institute has accepted these Pine-Richland High School juniors: Maggie Burris, Marissa Di, Kyle Donnelly, Sneha Iyer, Nick Jones, Mitchell McCaffrey and Alianna Sanzi.

• Marshall Elementary School fourth-grader Katherine Sabak has won honors in the Macy's sixth annual Spelling Bee for 8- 11-year-olds. She finished first in the regional competition among students from Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, West Virginia and southwest New York.

• These members of Mars Area High School chorus were selected by solo audition to perform in the recent Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Honors Chorus Festival -- seniors Troy Giel and Phillip Lowry and juniors Chris Blahnik and Maddie Smith.

• Several Fox Chapel Area High School students recently placed at the annual University of Pittsburgh Model United Nations Conference. First-place winners were seniors Johnny Lou and Jack Millard. Second-place winners were senior Christopher Cano; juniors David Ahn, Cara Costanzo, Manu Goyal, Bharat Iyer and Anna Mucci; and sophomore Annette Kukunas. A third-place award went to sophomore Francisca Bermudez.

• A poem, "Kitchen," written by Zain Mehdi, an eighth-grade student at Marshall Middle School, will be published in a future edition of Creative Kids Magazine, a publication written by and for children ages 8--14.

• Two nurses from UPMC St. Margaret were selected for Cameos of Caring awards, which honor registered nurses in Western Pennsylvania who demonstrate "excellence in nursing care, serve as effective advocates for patients and families, and are role models for the profession of nursing."

Rosharon Price, RN, operating room, was selected as the hospital's awardee.

Regina DeFalco, RN, BSN, MSN, nursing instructor, was selected as the hospital's Cameos of Caring awardee for nurse educators.
