County police said a car crash that killed two women in Harrison was not discovered for hours because the vehicle wrecked into a salvage yard, where it blended in with its surroundings.
"A smashed up car ... is not something that would draw attention there," Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the women as Samantha Smith, 19, of Leechburg, and Elisabeth Carney, 19, of Tarentum.
Lt. Schurman said the two women left Walmart in Harrison at around 11:30 p.m. and crashed their car into a salvage yard about 1,000 yards away on Freeport Road near Olive Avenue. A salvage yard employee discovered the heavily damaged car with the two women inside at about 8 a.m. this morning.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The women were likely incapacitated when they crashed and never called police. Lt. Schurman said he did not know where they were headed, but they were never reported missing.
