Hello Elwin, I just wanted to take the time to say thank you and that it is about time someone has given Homewood a voice. I'm a native of Homewood, but for the last seven years I've lived in Penn Hills and I'll admitt that I absolutely love representing Homewood and it will always be home. Growing up in Homewood was the best.
But trying to raise my son there was not a good thing with the gangs that had broken out in the early 1990's so we moved out to better his and our environment. Back on February 4th 2007 my 15 year old son took it a pond himself to take my car late that night with out permission. He also loves the fact that he is from Homewood, so he drove there that night to attend a newly opened under 21 club formerly known as the Travlers.
The Travelers even when I attended the club back in the day was known as a death trap. Well on February 4th my son was shoot in the head. He is a blessed son of God that was definantly watching over him that night. And although he is legally blind in his left eye as a result of the injury. I'm forever thankful for the lords blessing of keeping my son in his loving arms. I as a mother and a mother affected by the on going violence in homewood we really need to be heard by the boys/men that are behind the senseless shootings that have lead to, too many young men losing there lives or being seriourly injured leaving the parents and loves one left to either mourn there lost or try and pick up the pieces. And also readers awareness, and ultimatley higher officals in your face awareness. -- Kelly Cobb, Homewood
I just want to you Elwin and all of the contributors in your column thank you. Thank you for what you do in spotlighting all that is good in our community and bringing necessary attention to all the things that need to be addressed. Thank you to all of the readers for taking the time to read and respond to the information that Elwin prints. I am fighting in Iraq right now but every time I have the chance I get on line and read what is going on in Homewood. I see great things happening and I look forward to returning to my neighborhood and continuing to help restore the community and put the neighbor back in neighborhood. Enjoy your vacation Elwin. -- Chazz Burke, Homewood (Currently in Iraq)
