Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will travel to the Pittsburgh-Monroeville Airport today to investigate the crash of a small plane there Sunday, Monroeville police said.
On Sunday afternoon, a husband and wife from Tennessee were taking off in a 1968 Mooney four-seater bound for Charleston, W.Va., when a gust of wind raised the nose of the plane, police said. It stalled, veered to the left, hit some brush, and a fire broke out on the instrument panel.
The crash occurred at 5:29 p.m.
The couple suffered minor injuries and were able to remove themselves from the plane. They declined treatment at a hospital.
The airport remains temporarily closed pending the investigation.
