HIV/AIDS task force created in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh City Council today voted to set up an HIV/AIDS task force.

Councilman Corey O'Connor introduced legislation to set up the panel, saying the city and Allegheny County should help coordinate education and treatment programs and draw the academic and business communities into policy discussions.

The Pittsburgh HIV/AIDS Commission also will seek to raise the profile of a disease that doesn't generate the publicity it once did.

The commission will have as many as 30 members. Included will be city and county officials as well as representatives of nonprofit groups, universities and businesses and people with HIV and AIDS.
