On Saturday morning, May 16, I had completed several errands, the final one being dropping off cartons of glass at the Green Tree Recycling Center.
While getting out of the car, I hit the button to open my hatchback to remove the cartons. I got out of the car and to my dismay, I had hit the lock button.
I could see my keys and purse sitting on the front seat of my car — so near and yet so far. A very kind gentleman saw my frustration and came over with his cell phone and his offer to help.
Since my phone, AAA card with the local number to call, etc. were in my car, he called AAA for me, got put through to California — and after somewhat of a hassle — was connected with Pittsburgh AAA. He gave them my name and license plate number, and stayed with me until the AAA truck arrived. It was fixed quickly.
I am widowed and have been pretty much self-isolating, so this was the closest connection I had had with another human being in weeks. Thank you, Stephen, for giving up some of your valuable time on a Saturday morning. Your kindness is a highlight of this current mess.
Were it not for the need for social distancing, I would have given him a huge hug. (If we run into each other on the street, we may not recognize each other as we were both fully masked).
