Several weeks ago, I reached the OC parking lot near Petersen Events Center to find my car battery died in the 20-degree temperatures.
While getting ready to call for assistance, a lovely young lady came to my window and offered to help me get my car started. Despite just finishing her UPMC hospital shift (she wore their green scrubs) and I'm sure eager to get home before the snow began, Katie parked her car near mine and pulled out her phone to guide us through the process.
Then, as luck would have it, a University of Pittsburgh shuttle pulled up. Shuttle driver Ken offered to help as well. Standing in the bitter cold, they got my car started in no time. In addition, I received recommendations on the type of battery to purchase and a friendly wave when I was on my way.
I've always felt blessed to be a Pittsburgher, especially because of folks like Katie and Ken. As my Irish grandmother would say, "May God reward you a hundred-fold for your kindness."
