Ninth Congressional District too close to call

Ninth Congressional District too close to call

With just 1,009 votes separating him from U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, Art Halvorson isn't conceding just yet.

Campaign spokesman Joe Sterns said Mr. Halvorson won’t ask for a recount, but he does want to wait until all absentee ballots and overseas military ballots are accounted for in the Republican primary for the 9th Congressional District.

Mr. Shuster’s campaign spokesman has not responded to a request for comment.

If the vote count holds, Mr. Shuster, chairman of the U.S. House Transportation Committee, will have a smooth ride through the general election, where he faces no Democratic challenger.

According to the Department of State, the vote is 48,686 to 47,677. That puts Mr. Shuster ahead by less than 1 percentage point.
