Sound Advice: Perhaps the best projector deal ever is now available

If you have wanted to buy a projector for home or business use, but were priced out, your time may have come

High-end 4K Smart projector over 50% off:

I'll have a cost-no-object projector review coming soon, but for most of us, cost is always an issue.

JMGO triple-laser projectors are highly regarded but are typically priced toward the upper end of the market. This has changed recently, and a high-end JMGO projector is now within reach for many who may have been priced out before.

If you have wanted to buy a projector for home or business use, especially one bright enough to use in room lighting, your time may have come with the JMGO N1 Ultra.

You can now get this $2,199 projector for $999, which is unheard of for such a full-featured projector with its outstanding specifications, brightness and performance. Forbes and CNET raved about the N1 Ultra when it sold for the full $2,199, and at $999 it's a steal.

The JMGO N1 Ultra comes packaged in a protective capsule with latch and handle, so you won't have to buy a carrying case later.

The projector features Android 11 for streaming and is permanently mounted on a smooth, high-quality gimbal that makes aiming the projector effortless and provides great flexibility placing the image. It has automatic keystone correction, automatic screen fitting and it moves the image away from objects when projecting on a wall.

The N1 Ultra uses a triple-laser light source with separate lasers for red, green and blue. This is the gold standard for image quality and brightness, and in this respect the N1 Ultra delivers. I was delighted by the extremely sharp images with vibrant, accurate color, providing beautiful picture quality for movies, television and video games.

It is also smaller and lighter than a typical 4K projector (especially one that is so bright), so during the review period I found myself using it more often than I typically would given moving it around is so easy. I even put it on my dining room table and projected a hockey game on the wall so I could watch a game while cooking. (As always, I recommend using a screen when you can.)

The audio system is from high-end Danish speaker manufacturer Dynaudio and the projector has two HDMI ports, including one HDMI-eARC for use with an external sound system or soundbar.

The JMGO N1 Ultra is on sale for $1,299 at global.jmgo.com, which is already $900 off. Using the code JMGO300 at checkout saves another $300, bringing the price to $999 with order fulfillment from warehouses in the U.S.

There were two $1,299 bundles that include a stand (a ceiling mount bundle and a floor stand bundle) and I was surprised to find the code worked on them as well, so you may be able to get a stand included for the $999.

Even without a bundled stand, this is the best projector deal I have yet seen, and with the uncertain tariff situation it is especially compelling, especially with Father's Day and graduations coming up. I will have picture setting recommendations for the projector in an upcoming column.

Q. My Philips Automatic 406 turntable needs repair. The turntable starts by turning very slowly, then gradually picks up to normal speed. Can you recommend a repair shop in my area?

— T.R., Waukesha, WI

A. What you describe is consistent with a slipping belt, which you can replace easily by yourself. A Philips 406 belt is under $20 and available from Amazon, LP Gear, eBay or Reverb. Turntable belts are not universal, so be sure to get one specific to your turntable and wear gloves when handling it so skin oils do not degrade the rubber.
