Simulation software company Ansys Inc. is acquiring Optis, a French company that provides software for the scientific simulation of light.
The acquisition by the Southpointe-based company extends Ansys’ portfolio into the area of optical simulation, which is used in a number of industries, including self-driving cars. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the transaction is expected to close in the second quarter.
Optis, which is based in La Farlede, France, develops physics-based software that simulates light and human vision. Audi, Ford, Toyota and Ferrari along with Boeing, Airbus and GE are among Optis’ customers.
Ansys has created simulation software specifically designed for autonomous vehicle sensor development and the Optis acquisition will extend Ansys’ penetration into this market. Optis’ capabilities are expected to result in a sensor solution, covering visible and infrared light, electromagnetics and acoustics for camera, radar and lidar, Ansys said.
