Traffic jams caused by construction work that occurred on the Veterans Bridge on Monday did not materialize this morning.

Traffic flowed freely for the most part on the bridge, where major jams occurred Monday after PennDOT closed two bridges crossing Interstate 579-Crosstown Boulevard, Downtown. The department requested extra city police officers to control traffic at key intersections today.

"Things are moving significantly better today," PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said this morning. On Monday, inbound traffic backed up onto Route 28 and the Parkway North.
