Recount confirms winner in state judge race

Recount confirms winner in state judge race

Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele today announced that a mandatory recount in the Democratic primary for state Commonwealth Court judge confirms unofficial returns from all 67 counties showing Kathryn Boockvar as the winner.

The recount was required because the margin between the two candidates, from unofficial returns filed May 26, was less than half of 1 percent.

The trailing candidate had the option of waiving the recount, but did not do so.

Total Number of Votes Cast: 621,412

Difference: 2,052 (0.330 percent)

The cost of the recount will be paid by the commonwealth, as required by state law. The last statewide recount, in 2009, cost approximately $542,000.

Ms. Boockvar, a Bucks County attorney, will face Republican Anne Covey, of Bucks County, in the fall general election.

Ms. Ernsberger is a Pittsburgh attorney.
