Today is Xante Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
The 14-month old golden retriever -- star of the Post-Gazette Puppy Cam -- was the only dog in chambers when City Council unanimously approved the proclamation introduced by Councilman Bruce A. Kraus.
Pittsburgh Council "wishes Xante well as he heads off to his life's work of aiding a blind individual in his/her pursuit of a life of independence," the proclamation said.
Xante was bred for the Seeing Eye Inc. and will soon be going back to the organization's Morristown, N.J., headquarters for more training. If all goes well, he will be paired with a blind person.

The well-behaved Xante wore his green "Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Program" vest as he wagged and happily accepted pats from city officials and City Hall visitors.
Since 1929 The Seeing Eye has been training guide dogs, with volunteers raising and socializing puppies from the age of about 7 weeks until they are 16 to 18 months old.
Council also recognized puppy raiser Joan Ardisson, who brings Xante to the PG, where she works as assistant to the publisher and editor in chief, John Robinson Block.
Councilman Kraus noted that Xante traveled with a "pup-parazzi" entourage that included a reporter, photographer, videographer and the editor of Xante's Facebook page.
