With the city's response rate currently at 67 percent, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl today made a last push to get residents to return their U.S. census forms by tomorrow's official deadline.
Mr. Ravenstahl said the city is tracking the response rate by neighborhood and will award a proclamation to the one that racks up the highest percentage.
He said the current overall response rate already eclipses the city's 2000 response rate but trails the 2010 Allegheny County (74 percent) and state (72 percent) response rates.
Residents can follow the neighborhood competition online at www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us. The winner will be announced about May 15.
The mayor noted that the census is used to determine how much federal money flows to the city.
Residents also can call to complete their questionnaire over the telephone until April 22. The number is 1-866-872-6868.
