Marmo begins service as Common Pleas judge on Sept. 1

Attorney Michael F. Marmo will serve as a judge in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas starting Sept. 1.

Mr. Marmo was nominated by Gov. Ed Rendell and confirmed by the state Senate last week. He will take the place of Judge Robert P. Horgos, who resigned May 1 amid a federal investigation and civil suit involving land deals in Florida.

Mr. Marmo, of Ohio Township, has maintained a private practice for 16 years focusing on elder law, estate planning and property and business law. He has heard tax appeal and eminent domain cases as a special master for the Court of Common Pleas for more than a decade.

Mr. Marmo mounted a campaign for Common Pleas judge this spring but did not earn the nomination of either party.

Judge Horgos served in the civil division, but President Judge Donna Jo McDaniel has not yet decided where Mr. Marmo will serve.
