CCAC to name science center for K. Leroy Irvis

Community College of Allegheny County trustees voted today on a proposal to name a soon-to-be-built science center on the Allegheny campus for the late K. Leroy Irvis, former speaker of the Pennsylvania House.

Cathryn Irvis, widow of Mr. Irvis, attended this afternoon's board meeting. Mr. Irvis, who died in 2006, is credited among other things with playing a major role in creating the state's community college system, officials said.

The building is in its design stage, with construction expected in the fall.
