Indiana University of Pennsylvania and its foundation this morning announced that The Horizon Team has been chosen to develop a hotel just off campus that will be connected to the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.
The winning group represents Horizon Properties Group LLC and Summit Development Consulting Corp. The selection was made by a committee of university and community leaders, project planners said in a statement announcing the move.
A feasibility study has recommended that the hotel be full-service and upscale and that it have 140 rooms and both banquet and meeting facilities. Also recommended was selection of Hilton, Marriott or Hyatt as a preferred franchise, and lobby retail space for a hotel shop, project planners said in announcing this morning's selection, project planners said.
The hotel is to be built on 20 acres along Wayne Avenue adjacent to campus and will be connected to the convention and athletic complex, which is due to break ground in the fall. The hotel will be built on state-owned property and is expected to be finished in early 2011.
