The Mosside Boulevard/Route 48 bridge under construction since January 2006 is nearly finished and ready for a full opening.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Nov. 29 on the closed half of the new four-lane span between Monroeville and North Versailles. Motorists have been using the other half since last December.
Although the new bridge is completed, minor work will continue to take place on the $16.7 million project through spring.
It replaces a 75-year-old bridge -- now demolished -- that carried two lanes of traffic over Turtle Creek, Norfolk Southern Railways tracks and a valley between Route 130 and Wall Avenue.
The project also includes replacing the smaller Wall Avenue Bridge that leads to the Mosside Bouelvard Bridge and adjusting and improving the highway approaches.
PennDOT said parking will be available on the bridge for the Nov. 29 ceremony and the general public is welcome to attend.
