Mining to restrict I-79 travel in Greene County

Mining to restrict I-79 travel in Greene County

Longwall mining beneath Interstate 79 in Greene County has prompted the state Department of Transportation to issue speed limit and lane restriction advisories.

Starting Thursday, I-79 will be restricted to one lane in each direction and to a speed limit of 45 mph between mile marker 10 and 12. The area lies between the Kirby-Garards Fort interchange (Exit 7) and Waynesburg (Exit 14). The interstate is the major thoroughfare between Pittsburgh and Morgantown, W.Va.

The restrictions will continue indefinitely.
