The group Voices for Animals staged a protest Sunday at Saint Cyril of Alexandria Church in Brighton Heights in response to the recent killing of 272 geese in North Park.

Lindsay Zurosky, a coordinator for Voices for Animals, said the protestors picked the church because Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato worships there and they blame him for going back on a verbal agreement they say was made with officials at North Park in May.
"We're basically here to shame him for lying to us and killing the geese, to alert his fellow parishioners to the moral hypocrisy," Ms. Zurosky said.
Mr. Onorato did not attend the mass.
Ms. Zurosky said she favors the use of non-lethal controls such as border collies to harrass the geese, sound devices as a scare tactic, mowing grass to expose nesting areas and, as a last resort, egg addling and oiling which prevents the birth of new goslings.
