Houston, Pa. man identified in fatal motorcycle crash

A Houston, Pa., man has been identified as the driver of the motorcycle that crashed last night in North Strabane, killing him and injuring a couple riding in a car.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the motorcyclist as Matthew Brautigam, 27.

Mr. Brautigam had been speeding north on his bike at about 8:30 p.m. on Route 519 when he moved into the southbound lane to pass other vehicles, township police said.

As he approached the intersection at Helen Street, a southbound car was attempting to make a left turn. The motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the car near the rear.

The occupants of the car, Ronald and Karen Wardle, were hospitalized after the accident. Their conditions were not available.

The impact of the collision caused Mr. Brautigam, who was wearing a helmet, to be hurled 136 feet down the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 p.m.
