A man who drowned in the Monongahela River yesterday while trying to save his dog has been identified as Michael Schreiner, 34, of Mount Washington.
River Rescue was called around 7:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a man in the water. Mr. Schreiner's dog ran into the river to chase some ducks and he went in after it, swimming about 45 feet offshore.
He disappeared and River Rescue pulled him from the water about 30 minutes later. He died at Mercy Hospital.
