Sherry Wytovich, 31, of Avella, told a Belmont County, Ohio, Common Pleas jury that she learned the next day from the ex-wife, Marlene "Slim" Smith, that she had killed somebody.

The testimony came during the third day of Mr. Main's trial on obstruction and perjury charges in connection with Mr. Proviano's death.

Mr. Proviano was a medical student from Baldwin Borough who was on his way home for the holidays when he was slain.

When asked by Mr. Main's attorney why she didn't contact authorities until 2006, Ms. Wytovich said she initially had thought that Ms. Smith was joking. Later, she said she was scared.

But in Feburary 2006, after learning that Ms. Smith was being tried for the murder of Mr. Proviano, she contacted authorities.

"I didn't want to see her get away with it," Ms. Wytovich said.
