Two face extradition to Ohio in shooting

Two Western Pennsylvania men are in jail today awaiting extradition to Ohio on attempted murder charges.

Richard Cavanaugh, of Greensburg, is being held at Westmoreland County Prison on $100,000 bond; John Walter Jaworski, of Buffalo Township, was arrested in November in Butler County, and pleaded guilty on Wednesday to attempted murder.

Belmont County, Ohio prosecutor Chris Berhalter on Thursday said Jaworski and Leslie Long, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, met on the Internet a year ago and began an interstate romance. Police believe Cavanaugh is Jaworski's friend, and the three conspired to kill Mrs. Long's husband, Brian Long.

Brian Long was shot in his arm and stomach in the garage of his home on the evening of June 3.

Leslie Long was arrested Wednesday in St. Clairsville when she showed up with her husband for a grand jury hearing on the case. She was taken to the Belmont County Jail, where she awaits a March 10 arraignment. Her husband told The Wheeling News-Register he never suspected his wife might be involved.

St. Clairsville police worked with Pennsylvania State Police on the investigation.
