Essential Public Media unveiled programming details for its news and information format for WDUQ-FM (90.5) today that include local, regional and national coverage, along with NPR shows like "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered." Jazz, long a staple of the station, will have a broadcast presence on Saturday nights and on a 24/7 HD channel, plus online and mobile accessibility.
The new format will focus on in-depth news coverage, including local and regional news programming produced by the station. Besides its Saturday-night slot, jazz programming will be available via an online stream and through apps for smartphones and tablets.
EPM is buying the station from Duquesne University for $6 million, pending FCC approval. The target date for launching the new format is July 1.
