WAMO-AM (860) will become an all-talk station targeted to the African-American audience starting Feb. 27. The Sheridan Broadcasting-owned station, which currently airs a mix of talk and classic R&B music, will carry syndicated talk programming from Radio One and REACH Media's new African-American talk network, which launched today.

'YEP welcomes community to its new broadcast home

WAMO-AM will add daily talk shows hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton (weekdays from 1 to 4 p.m.) and author Michael Eric Dyson (weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) to its current syndicated talk lineup, which includes Tom Joyner (weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m.), and Bev Smith (weeknights from 7 to 10).
The station will also add local newscasts throughout the day.
While there are plenty of syndicated talk shows on the market, Radio One CEO and president Alfred Liggins III says the new programming "is long overdue. We are filling a huge gap and are offering radio affiliates an opportunity to broaden their audience appeal."
