Springsteen to open River Tour in Pittsburgh

The city of three rivers will get the first look at Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Bandโ€™s The River Tour 2016 when it opens at Consol Energy Center on Jan. 16.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at LiveNation.com with ticket prices ranging from $57.75 to $157.50.

The 24-date tour coincides with today's release of "The Ties That Bind: The River Collection," a comprehensive look at the era of the 1980 album "The River." Although there is no word from the Springsteen camp, it is assumed the set list will be heavy on songs from the double album that topped the charts and included such favorites as โ€œHungry Heart,โ€ โ€œOut in the Streetsโ€ and โ€œThe Ties That Bind.โ€

Each night of the tour will be mixed for release on Live.BruceSpringsteen.net as high-quality downloads and CDs. Recordings will be available within days of each performance. Nearby dates on the tour include Washington, D.C.'s Verizon Center (Jan. 29), Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena (Feb. 23) and Buffalo's First Niagara Center (Feb. 25).

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform in Pittsburgh on Jan. 16.

Springsteen will play entire 'River' album during Pittsburgh tour stop

It will be the E Street Band's first show here since April 2014, when Springsteen, 66, had Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine on board in place of Steve Van Zandt, who was filming the television series "Lilyhammer" in Norway. The Boss returned a month later to jam with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland.

Springsteen and the E Street Band played their first-ever Pittsburgh arena shows on The River Tour in 1980 (Nov. 30-Dec. 1), after having played The Stanley Theater on the Darkness Tour in August 1978.

Springsteen and the band will be the musical guest on โ€œSaturday Night Liveโ€ on Dec. 19.
