• Chuck D, righteous frontman for the revolutionary Public Enemy, will be the special guest speaker at the Urban Roots Hip Hop Symposium & Job Fair at the Kelly-Strayhorn in East Liberty at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The event will feature job info, live entertainment and "stimulating discussion," which goes with the Chuck D territory.
Admission is free with on-site registration. Attendees are asked to bring healthy nonperishable food items as donations to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Atkins' advice
• Martin Atkins, former drummer for PiL, Killing Joke, Ministry and Pigface, will be at Eide's Records, 1121 Penn Ave., in the Strip today from 4 to 7 p.m. to talk about his book "Tour:Smart," written to help bands plan their tours, from routing to merchandising to promotion.
In addition to 30 years on the road, Atkins has taught "The Business of Touring" at Columbia College in Chicago.
Wino's 'Zygote'
• Wino Riot, a local psych-pop band influenced by the likes of the Beatles, the Flaming Lips and Pink Floyd, will release its second record, "The Zygote" (the follow-up to "GyroFishChili"), with a show Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at the Thunderbird Cafe, Lawrenceville.
The band -- David Barton (guitar, vocals), Doug Fitzsimmons (keyboards, vocals), Charles Kulbacki (guitar, vocals), Marc Martinka (drums, percussion) and Nick Michaels (bass) -- recorded at Mr. Small's and has the backing of the studio's Creative.Life.Support records.

Rock for Darfur
• Bill Toms and Hard Rain will team up with Tom Breiding and American Son to perform a benefit concert Wednesday at Cefalo's in Carnegie to raise money to aid the people of Darfur, where more than 200,000 people have been either killed or displaced. Proceeds from the show will go to Relief International.
Tickets are $12 at the door. There will also be a special gift auction, 50/50 raffle, benefit T-shirts, posters.
Slim sales
• Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Slim's Nov. 30 concert at Diesel appeared to be canceled because of slow ticket sales. Now, it seems to be back on, with Joker Productions dropping the show and club management picking it up. Slim, aka Sied Chahrour, is about to drop his Def Jam debut on Dec. 4. ... John Eddie, a veteran Jersey rocker who has a song ("Low Life") on the new Kid Rock record, will play Moondog's Friday night at 7.
