Card game created by Pittsburgh native is nominated for developer's award

A card game created by Pittsburgh native MaryMartha Ford-Dieng is a finalist for a 2017 BIT Award, celebrating the year in games and the people behind them.

The Ultimate Clap Back card game, distributed through her company Mot & Dot LLC, is nominated in the category of Table Top Game of the Year. The objective of the wordplay game is wit, sarcasm, snark and a bit of shade.

The first player draws from the pink pile and says what’s on the card to another player. The next player finds his or her best clap back and responds. If the clap back is strong, they’ve won; if it’s weak, the hand is lost. In a disagreement, a vote is taken and majority rules and ties are discarded. The person to win five hands wins the game.

Winners will be announced at the ceremony for the BIT Awards, presented by Playcrafting, on Dec. 15 at the John L. Tishman Auditorium at Parsons’ New School of Design in New York City.

Ms. Ford-Dieng is a program coordinator and adviser for Columbia University and lives with her husband, Tony, in Harlem, also home to her brother, Tony- and Grammy-winning performer Billy Porter.
