A reader who posted to the magazine mailbox makes a good point about my Pittsburgh Symphony review last weekend.
While I was ranting about the 30 or so audience members I saw leaving Heinz Hall during Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 (so disruptive to the rest of us, even more than that annoying cell phone ringer that went off) I should have raved about how tremendous the rest of the patrons were. I guess I just figured that those who stayed would know that they were supportive, but it would have been good for general readers to know there are strong supporters even of "difficult" music here in Pittsburgh. For the record, emphatic cheering and hearty applause rained down on the PSO after the performance on Friday, and I was thankful for it.
