The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will use a new $391,400 federal grant to train its librarians and managers in community outreach.
Called the Laura Bush 21st Century Grant, the money covers three years of training and was released by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Carnegie is the only library in the state to win the grant, said Suzanne Thinness, communications manager.
Thinness said the training will begin next year, after receipt of the first grant installment and development of a curriculum.
The money will allow the library "to continue our history of leadership in developing and training librarians who can provide excellent services to our community," said library director Barbara Mistick.
