Kingham leaves start due to elbow pain

Class AAA Indianapolis right-hander Nick Kingham left his start today because of pain in his right elbow, according to the team.

Kingham struck out a batter to start the sixth inning, but catcher Tony Sanchez called time after seeing something he didn’t like with Kingham. Indians manager Dean Treanor and trainer Brian Housand visited with Kingham and eventually removed him.

In a statement released to milb.com, Indianapolis said: “Nick was removed from his start today due to discomfort in his right elbow. He is being evaluated and we will provide more information when it becomes available."

The 23-year-old Kingham is the Pirates’ No. 6 prospect, according to Baseball America.

Funny comment from Clint Hurdle this afternoon: Asked about Jung Ho Kang’s comments about wanting to face Chapman when he was posted, and then facing Chapman last night, Hurdle said, ”I was aware, because there was a media blitz based on some other comments that he made that came out when he first signed with us. I had to read all of it to find out what was the problem.“

Hurdle was referring to Kang’s comments saying he could outplay Jordy Mercer given enough playing time.
