Jenn Menendez: Welcome everyone. Please feel free to leave your questions and we'll get started at 2 p.m.
Jenn Menendez: Let's get started. Welcome.
Andrew: Well it's finally here! WVU fans have circled this game since we moved over to the Big 12, although it is the beginning of Fall break...what do you expect the crowd to be like this week after seeing 4 straight losses? Still a loud environment Jenn?
Jenn Menendez: Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of the excitement level for this game. I took a quick look at stubhub earlier today and there are many, many tickets available - some for as little as $32 and change.
Jenn Menendez: Not sure how high the level of frustration is with students either? Will their sections be filled? Unclear.
Andrew: I guess I'm heading to Morgantown for the weekend then!
Jenn Menendez: Well you shouldn't have too much trouble finding good seats.
Jim: I have been hearing about potential inquiries from soon to be coach-less NFL teams about O'Brien. I suppose that's to be expected given what he has done in such a short period of time. What do you think the odds are of O'Brien leaving well short of the end of his contract?
Jenn Menendez: Hi Jim. I think you might be looking for the Penn State chat. My insight into Coach O'Brien is limited, but from the outside looking in he seems very determined to try and help things turn around there. That said, I doubt there is a man in this business who wouldn't leave any situation for the right next situation.
WVUfan: What is the mood of this team Jenn? They seemed pretty dejected after the fourth loss in Ok State...?
Jenn Menendez: Well everyone had their game faces on Tuesday night during interviews when we met with them and said they've regrouped and are focused on improving their bowl position. Of course four straight losses is tough to take - even professionals would be struggling. These guys do seem to get up for big night games at home, so we'll see...
Andrew: Glad to see Stedman Bailey back to form last week, the games are getting closer and I think Geno will want to out-do his preseason offensive player runner up in Landry Jones this week...should be an exciting game for sure!
Jenn Menendez: Geno was asked that very question on Tuesday. If he draws any motivation from playing in a game with two strong QBs. He said certainly, it's human nature to draw some motivation from playing one of the best in the league...As for Bailey, he looked very good again last week and seems to be headed in the right direction with his injury. Had a shot of cortisone which allowed him to be back to full strength.
GT Lynn: Can Oklahoma do to WVU what it did to Texas?
Jenn Menendez: I wouldn't put anything by this Oklahoma team. They are legit contenders to reach a BCS game and have the talent, drive, coaching to make Saturday night go their way.
Patrick in Philly: With a win over Oklahoma, would this season be declared a "success?" Or, would it necessitate winning out, including the bowl game?
Jenn Menendez: I'm not sure this season can be declared a success in any way right now. Even if WVU upsets Oklahoma and runs the table, there will still be a four-game losing streak smack in the middle of the season. Would it lessen the sting and up the team's stock again? Absolutely. It would be a very big deal if this team beats Oklahoma on Saturday, but I don't think it means we delcare the season a "success." Going in the right direction again? Sure.
Andrew: Jenn, I've heard some talk that if both Pitt and WVU make it to the .500 hump or better, we might be able to see these two play this season in a pinstripes bowl maybe? Your thoughts?
Jenn Menendez: There's been some talk about how interesting that would be to have a Backyard Brawl in New York City. But realistically that would probably only happen if West Virginia manages to lose two of the next three games and I'm not sure what Pitt would have to do to be eligible for that game.
Jenn Menendez: As an aside, there is a couple of questions in the queue about rumors. I try not to deal in rumors or speculate on them until there is considerable fact and confirmation to back them up simply because I think it would be journalistically unethical. So apologies if you've asked and I haven't published your question.
Andrew: Can you draw any conclusions of the basketball team from a midnight blowout in Gonzaga?
Jenn Menendez: I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from an early season game like that in general. But I actually don't cover the basketball team.
GT Lynn: Has anyone talked about an injury to Geno? His throwing motion seems a bit ragged.
Jenn Menendez: He has been asked about overuse, but so far there has been nothing on the record about his arm or throwing motion. Others have seen what you see though.
Patrick in Philly: How has Childress looked in practice? I'm not sullied on Geno in anyway, just looking down the road.
Jenn Menendez: The only time we really saw him (practices are closed) was during the preseason for very short clips. He is big, and can sling it. Looked to have a good arm. But those were static drills remember. He was suspended for the spring game and many of us were anticipating having that game as an evaluation tool.
Johnny Football: Any significant injuries we should be worried about for this week's matchup against Boomer Sooner?
Jenn Menendez: If they are any new significant injuries, then the team has done a good job of hiding it. Shawne Alston is obviously far from 100 percent, and other guys are banged up. But as far as a new key player being missing from the lineup - we'll know at game time.
Jenn Menendez: Sorry, typo. Should read "If there are..."
Andrew: Any way that we can use Paul Millard to throw 1 pass and have it be a 40+ yard touchdown going forward? We could use some more of that ...
Jenn Menendez: I think they'd be ecstatic if they could count on those points every game. Millard came in cold and fired in a pass that scored some critical points and kept that game within reach. When a team is struggling, everything helps.
Jenn Menendez: Well that's all folks. Thanks for joining me. One programming note: Next week's chat will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. instead of Thursday. You'll be eating turkey and I'll be flying to Des Moines, Iowa.
