On behalf of the 2,400 members of California Attorneys for Criminal
Justice (CACJ), congratulations to Bill Moushey and the Post-Gazette for your
outstanding series on government misconduct, and thank you for
bringing
these miscarriages of justice before the public. CACJ is the largest
statewide association of criminal defense lawyers and associated
professionals.
You reveal what defense lawyers and their clients experience on a
daily
basis - perjury by law enforcement and other government witnesses,
fabrication of inculpatory evidence and the deliberate concealment of
evidence that would prove innocence, deception and fraud by
prosecutors,
and the tacit endorsement of these crimes by elected officials,
appointed attorneys general and the courts.
We hope your series will prompt changes in the system so that only the
guilty are convicted - and that those convictions include police and
prosecutors guilty of perjury and fraud.
