Norwin school board on Wednesday night accepted the resignation of the district's new athletic director, Michael Burrell, and hired another, Brandon Rapp.
The school board had hired Mr. Burrell to be the new athletic director on June 19 at a salary of $55,000 per year to replace Randy Rovesti, who is retiring.
At Wednesday night's meeting, Norwin Superintendent William Kerr said Mr. Burrell resigned because he decided to remain with his current employer, North Catholic High School.
In between several closed-door sessions, Mr. Kerr said school directors were trying to select a new athletic director.
When the public meeting reconvened, school board president Robert Perkins said Mr. Rapp, Derry Area School District athletic director and director of transportation, had been selected as the new Norwin director of athletics and student activities.
His salary will be $68,000 per year. Thomas Wrobleski, director of human resources, said a start date for Mr. Rapp has not been established, but will probably be within two to three weeks.
According to his resume, Mr. Rapp has been employed at Derry Area since July 2010, has supervised the construction of a 6,000-square-foot fitness center for Derry Area, the 2012 stadium renovation and a tennis court renovation.
He has also developed an athletic handbook, served as director of facilities, run 19 athletic programs and managed more than 53 employees in that capacity, and has also supervised more than 60 transportation employees, according to the resume.
Before working as athletic director at Derry Area, he worked in the Redbank Valley Athletic Department as a game manager, and volunteered as fitness room supervisor for 18 to 20 hours per week.
Before that, he was assistant program director of the Clarion County YMCA, where he also held a number of other positions, the resume said.
