Richard and Patricia (Giannini) Loucks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 7, 2012. The couple has two children: Rick (wife, Dawn) and Lori (husband, Dave) and four grandchildren: Lauren, Connor, Kailee and Riley. They reside in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Q: How did you meet?
Pat: We met in 1960 at a party for a friend who was graduating from South Hills High School.
Q: Who introduced you?
Pat: Rich's sister, who was a friend of mine.
Q: Where did you each grow up?
Pat: We both grew up in Mt. Washington.
Q: Who proposed? How?
Pat: Rich proposed to me at a drive-in movie.
Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?
Pat: We were married at St. Mary of the Mount Parish because that's where I was a member.
Q: Where was the reception and honeymoon? Why did you choose those sites?
Pat: The reception was at Cedars of Lebanon Hall on Brookline Boulevard. It held up to 250 guests. Our honeymoon was spent driving Rich's 57 Cadillac convertible, full of wedding gifts, across the country to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Q: What is your favorite wedding memory?
Pat: My mom's cousin sang a beautiful, old Italian song at the reception.
Q: Are there any current wedding trends that you wish you could have incorporated?
Pat: A destination wedding, which was unheard of at that time
Q: Do you still own any of your wedding gifts? If so, what?
Pat: Yes, we still have an engraved cake knife and engraved champagne glasses.
Q: What is the secret to your successful marriage?
Pat: We attribute our success to taking one day at a time, being each other's best friend and having date night once a week.
Q: What activities do you enjoy doing most as a couple?
Pat: We enjoy traveling and, most of all, spending as much time as we can with our grandchildren.
Q: How did you celebrate your anniversary?
Pat: Our children organized a party for us here in Albuquerque where we celebrated with 80 guests. In September, we are going to Hawaii.
