Mark and Lynn Giovannitti, of Peters Township, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on September 14. They are the parents of Annelyse, Shalynn, Vincenzo and the late Sheena Marie.

Q: How did you meet?

Lynn: Mark and I met at a graduation party. He asked me for my phone number, along with several other guys, and he was the only one that I gave my number to. He didn't call!

Q: Where did you each grow up?

Lynn: We both grew up in Baldwin and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1980 and 1978.

Q: Who proposed? How?

Lynn: Before proposing, Mark first asked my father if he could marry me. (This wasn't an easy thing to do.) He then took me to one of our favorite restaurants, Fatigati's, in Cuddy. After he proposed and I said, "Yes," he told me we were going to go back to his house to tell his parents. When we got there, all of our family and friends were there for the surprise!

Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?

Lynn: We were married at Nativity Catholic Church in South Park. This was the parish that Mark belonged to. At this time I did not attend mass or have a home parish.

Q: Where was the reception and honeymoon? Why did you choose those sites?

Lynn: Our wedding reception was at South Baldwin Fire Hall. Little Giant was the caterer at that time and their food and presentation was very good and it was affordable. We honeymooned in Cape Cod. We chose Cape Cod because we heard it was beautiful and neither of us had been there before. We flew People's Express (remember them?) and paid for our plane ticket onboard while we were flying! The crew was like the Shriner's Circus, they did everything.

Q: Do you still own any of your wedding gifts? If so, what?

Lynn: Yes, we still have a few wedding gifts, namely our wine glasses. However, we are down to just a few. One of my favorite gifts is an afghan that my late Aunt Rose made for us. It is so warm.

Q: What is the secret to your successful marriage?

Lynn: The secret to our successful marriage is having God in our life. With Him, all things are possible!

Q: What activity do you enjoy doing most as a couple?

Lynn: We are both Italian, so we love to go out and eat and enjoy a good meal with good wine!

Q: How did you celebrate your anniversary?

Lynn: We celebrated our 25th anniversary in Italy. While we were there, we renewed our vows at the grotto in St. Peters Basilica by Monsignor Bernard Hebda. It was truly a dream come true!

Other details:

Lynn: Our 12-year-old son asked us "Why do you have to renew your vows if you already made a promise to each other and to God?" I answered, "It's superglue!"
