To provide relief from the extreme heat, some senior centers in Allegheny County will stay open later than usual today.
Anyone over the age of 60 can take refuge from the hot weather at one of the county's 57 senior centers. Seven of the centers will stay open late: The Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill will close at 9:30 p.m., and the Seton Center in Overbrook will be open until 9 p.m. Other centers with late hours include Citiparks Center in Homewood, and the Stephen Foster Community Center in Lawrenceville.
The Department of Human Services advises all residents to check on elderly neighbors, ensuring that they are drinking enough water and that ventilation in their homes is working properly.
