Two children were flown by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Saturday night with what police described as severe injuries following a wreck in Washington County.
State police at Washington said Stacy Lee Skariot, 31, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when she lost control of her vehicle. Police, who did not identify where Ms. Skariot resides, said the woman sustained moderate injuries. Police did not identify the children nor indicate whether Ms. Skariot is their mother.
The accident occurred at 10 p.m. on West Chestnut Street in Canton as Ms. Skariot was westbound on Route 40 when she lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a guardrail and a tree then went over a hill, rolling at least once, according to police. Police said Ms. Skariot was not wearing a seat belt and neither of the children, boys who are ages 8 and 9, were secured in booster seats as required by law.
Police said an open bottle of beer and more than 100 prescription tablets were found scattered throughout the vehicle.
Ms. Skariot was flown to UPMC Presbyterian from the scene of the accident.
