The Republican candidate has been named today for a special election for the Peters Township council..
Attorney Meghan Jones-Rolla was approved at the Washington County Republican Party's monthly meeting and will appear on the November ballot.
"Her experience in her current job, as well as her positive support for the tenants of the Constitution [especially the 2nd Amendment] will help this community now and in the future," the party said.
Former councilman Michael McCaig was selected Aug. 12 to serve a 4 1/2-month term through the end of the year, after the July death of Robert Atkison, a Republican. A permanent replacement will be selected during a special election held during the Nov. 5 general election.
George Vitteck, chairman of the Washington County Democrats, said his party is working to select its candidate.
