A California University of Pennsylvania basketball player has been charged with raping a student after a party in a housing complex.
Jeremy Posey, 19, of Huntingdon, a sophomore, was arraigned Saturday before Magistrate Jay Weller with a preliminary hearing scheduled March 20.
California Borough police charged him with felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and reckless endangerment. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
"Cal U's first concern is for the victim, and we will continue to provide support for her and her family, as needed," CalU spokeswoman Christine Kindl said in an emailed statement.
"This is a serious matter that must be resolved through the criminal justice system. Because the suspect is a student, the situation also will be addressed through the university's disciplinary process."
The woman told police that Mr. Posey followed her to her room in Vulcan Village as she tried to go to sleep about 4 a.m. and then assaulted her.
