A Washington County jury acquitted a man of third-degree murder in the 2011 shooting of his co-workers at a North Strabane welding company but convicted him of other offenses.
Danny Kirtley, 49, who moved from Texas to Mount Pleasant before the shooting, will be sentenced Nov. 27 on one count of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault. A jury deliberated for nearly 10 hours over two days before handing down its verdict Tuesday after hearing testimony about the death of 34-year-old Trevor Compton.
Like Mr. Kirtley, Mr. Compton had recently moved from Texas to work for Rosenbloom Welding at a warehouse on Wilson Boulevard.
Police said Mr. Kirtley was knocked to the ground while fighting with another co-worker about 4 p.m. Feb. 10, 2011. They said that co-worker left and Mr. Compton walked over to attempt to resolve the matter. Police said Mr. Kirtley then shot Mr. Compton in the abdomen.
Mr. Kirtley was flown to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was treated for a head injury and then arrested upon his release.neigh_washington
