The occupant of a Cadillac SRX, believed to be the driver, fled the scene of an accident this morning at the Wabash Tunnel, according to Port Authority Transit.
PAT spokesman Jim Ritchie said cameras showed the vehicle, which was traveling outbound, was "going very fast" at about 7:15 a.m. today.
He said, "When it came out of the tunnel, speed clearly played a factor as it was unable to properly maneuver through the exit area. It drove straight into the gate and crash barrel fixture in that exit area."
There were three people in the vehicle. One was ejected, and another was in the vehicle. Both were taken to local hospitals in critical condition, Mr. Ritchie said. The third person left the scene, he said.
Mr. Ritchie did not release names of those involved.
