Another northbound lane will soon open on Route 28, easing congestion amid road construction that has sent driving times soaring.
Construction contractors are still on track to open the outbound route between East Ohio Street and the 31st Street Bridge to two lanes by Sept. 16, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said today.
"There's considerable congestion, especially around rush hour," he said.
The extra lane will be open through at least December.
The Route 28 project will soon enter its fifth and final phase, with repaving, reconstruction and new walls planned for the section of road between East Ohio Street and the 31st Street Bridge.
