Timetable for reopening the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel

Engineers have prepared a sequence for contractors to follow to provide an orderly reopening of the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel, which began last night.

Here's the schedule of times and procedures, based on information provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation:

10 p.m. yesterday

Route 51 South reduced from three lanes to two between the West End Circle and I-279.

6 p.m. today

Begin removing signs, barriers and barrels on Liberty Avenue on-ramp to Fort Pitt Bridge, Fort Duquesne Boulevard ramp to the Fort Pitt Bridge, Fort Duquesne Bridge ramp to the Fort Pitt Bridge, and West Carson Street exit ramp.

Close Interstate 376 westbound (Parkway East inbound) at 7 p.m. Detour traffic to Grant Street to Fort Pitt Boulevard, then to Fort Duquesne Bridge.

Open I-376 westbound with the on-ramp to the Fort Duquesne Bridge closed until Aug. 8. I-376 westbound traffic will be detoured to the Fort Pitt Bridge to West Carson Street to the West End Bridge.

By midnight or earlier, the bridge and tunnel open.

10 p.m. tomorrow

Reopen West End Circle and north end of the West End Bridge.

Inside lane remains closed on Cross Street around the West End Circle.

By 6 a.m. Friday, West End Bridge and Circle are open and functioning.
