Texture Contemporary Ballet is the latest dance troupe with Pittsburgh ties accepted to perform at Jacob's Pillow, a global capital for dance during its annual international festival from June to August in Massachusetts.
The 2-year-old company, under the direction of founder Alan Obuzor (Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre) and associate artistic director Kelsey Bartman (Nashville Ballet and PBT), will present on July 26 excerpts from its ballet "Infinity," performed last September at Pittsburgh CAPA, Downtown, as part of a collaboration with nonprofit sinfonia and chamber singer group OvreArts.
"We just want to take in that whole environment, this place where world-class companies come to present work and this atmosphere of new innovative stuff being created," artistic director Mr. Obuzor said.
Also on the festival lineup is the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble and Pittsburgh native Kyle Abraham's group Abraham.In.Motion. Both will perform in August.
Mr. Abraham received the 2012 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award of $25,000.
