Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre announced today that it closed on a $850,000 land acquisition that will increase the footprint of its headquarters in the Strip District to more than 60,000 square feet as part of a four-phase plan to grow Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School's enrollment and engagement with the community.
The newly acquired 10,800 square-feet of property at 2930 Liberty Ave. launches the third phase. It will be used to expand PBT's current parking and studio space at 2900 Liberty Ave. In the future, PBT plans to construct an annex building that will accommodate three new studios.
PBT's board of trustees approved the purchase at its July meeting.
Earlier phases have included the acquisition in 2009 of the Byham House in Lawrenceville for student housing and the installation of new Harlequin floors in the studios.
The campaign's complete cost is estimated to run about $10.7 million, of which 42 percent has already been raised.
